Kraut Burgers

As promised, more recipes!  I’m not sure how “clean” this is, but it’s tasty & it’s what we had for dinner last night…

Kraut Burgers
From Kathy Richardson (or someone in her family, lol)

Bread Dough

  • 9 oz milk (warm to 90-100 degrees)
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1.5 TB sugar
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 2 TB butter (I melt it)
  • 2 tsp yeast

Put everything in your bread machine & set it to the “dough” cycle.  If you don’t have a bread machine… good luck. I have no idea. Just make some dough.

The Burgers

  • 1-2 pounds of hamburger
  • 1 jar of sauerkraut, drained (16ish ounces maybe?) 
  • optional: onion

  Brown the burger & drain the excess fat.  Add the jar of sauerkraut & cook until warmed (or onion is sauteed).
By now, your dough should be done- roll out chunks into 6 inch circles.  Place the dough in your hand & fill with the burger mixture.  Fold the edges of the dough over the burger, completely surrounding it.
Put all your burgers on a baking sheet & bake at 350 until bread is golden brown (about 30-45 minutes).

The Richardsons take these hunting, so they’re obviously good cold, just very sauerkrauty.  I love them hot, with ketchup 🙂  Thanks Kathy!
