Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Mix

When I went gluten-free, I had a hard time finding GF spaghetti sauce mix packets… So I decided to make my own! After some searching, I found a recipe on All Recipes… but it wasn’t the best.  It calls for sweet pepper flakes.  Apparently, sweet pepper flakes are not the same as crushed red peppers.  After a couple batches of spicy spaghetti sauce (Cody didn’t even like it- that’s how bad it was), I threw out the rest & adjusted the recipe to fit our tastes better.

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Mix

Adapted from All Recipes


  • 1/2 c cornstarch
  • 2 tb onion powder
  • 1/2 c dried parsley flakes
  • 1/4 c Italian seasoning
  • 2 tb + 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tb + 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 c garlic powder


  • Mix all ingredients together
  • Store in an airtight container (I got the idea to store the mix in a pint Mason jar from this blog)

To make spaghetti sauce:

  • Brown 1 pound hamburger in a large sauce pan
  • Add in 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce & 1/4 c sauce mix to the burger
  • Mix together & simmer on low for ~30 minutes
